Learn step-by-step how to cook your first Paella following my family’s recipe in a charming cooking space located in one the most unique and multicultural neighborhoods of Barcelona, the bohemian district of Gracia. During this cooking workshop, we will also make Sangría, an iconic and traditional refreshment in Spain and while in the region of Catalunya you will be learning to make the most traditional dessert ‘Catalan Cream’, a flavorful, aromatic and creamy dessert.
We will cook all the recipes together and share the tasks just like a traditional Spanish family. Together around one big table with all the necessary fresh ingredients. Some of you will be cutting fruits to prepare the Sangría, while others will be preparing the Catalan Cream or the vegetables for the Paella. Depending on the size of the class, we will all take turns making sure that each one of us have a chance to participate.
At the end of the course we will eat together our communal Paella with a glass of Sangría and completed with the dessert of Catalan Cream.

Our family of 4 (including 2 small kids) enjoyed the class very much. Eladi was an amazing host with great storytelling, which made the class very special. We stayed in... read more Barcelona for over a week and had paella almost everyday, but the paella we made in the class was definitely the best!

12/28/2024The host advised us, more than half an hour late, that the teacher would not be able to come. There was no immediate advisory even with the other guest messaging... read more the host asking why our class had not started yet despite it being a few minutes past the start of the allotted time.

Initially I registered for another paella cooking class, but it was cancelled a day before the class. I looked online and and was glad that i managed to find this... read more class. It was an excellent class! Anna is a very passionate and articulate teacher, and she shared with us all about Spanish cooking. She prepared a drink Sangria with red wine, a dessert crema catalana ( which involves a blow torch), and chicken, prawn and green bean paella. As there was one participant which was vegetarian, we also had a smaller pan of artichoke paella which was delicious. (so its good that you go with a vegeterian! Haha) This class is interactive as for each step Anna would demonstrate and then someone could volunteer to take over. At the end of the class I purchased the wooden spoons we ate with :) I saw that they also had "pimento la vera" and saffron for purchase, but I had already got that on my trip to Granada, a few days ago.

As a guy whose not into cooking, I was initially apprehensive about spending 3 hours of a vacation in a cooking class. Boy o boy was I wrong. Anna was... read more AWESOME, I learned about how she grew up with food specifically with a dish I liked, paella. What was just a dish I ordered at a restaurant to me before became more personal through Anna.
I had some friends who took a different cooking class from someone else the day before, they reported it was a very passive experience as they sat and watched the instructor do most of the cooking. This is definitely NOT the case with Anna's class. You will don a cooking apron and actively participate in the cooking process. Yes you will be handling knives so don't cut yourself as my friend did! After the cooking process is done, you will sit down and enjoy the creation you just made. Talking with Anna over the meal was like getting to know a new friend that is a local, we learned so much more about Barcelona, she was also interested in us and our own backgrounds as well.
I'd highly recommend booking a cooking class with Anna, if you're a small group and are flexible I'd ask if she has any open spots if you want a more intimate experience as our cooking class with our group of 4 was.
